Opera at the Corona Library:

The Riverside Lyric Opera and the Friends of the Corona Public Library offer a free concert to the public in the Corona Public Library. Join their chorus, soloists and orchestra for a night of beautiful music and wonderful drama in the presentation of Dido & Aeneas. This is the third opera event presented by the Riverside Lyric Opera, a Riverside-based opera company at the Library. This event is a local community yearly favorite so please plan to join us Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 at 7: 30 PM.

Riverside Lyric Opera at the Corona Library

Dido and Aeneas, this year's selection, is an opera by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell and will be sung in English.

It is based on a story from the fourth book of Virgil's Aeneid, of the legendary Queen of Carthage, Dido and the Trojan refugee, Aeneas. When Aeneas and his crew are shipwrecked in Carthage, he and the queen fall in love. However, Aeneas must soon leave to found Rome. Dido cannot live without him and awaits death.
