Friends' Annual Meeting held June 12
Meeting Report:
The Friends annual meeting took place in June. Attendance was excellent. Lunch was served followed by the meeting. An overview of the successes was given. These included all the various programs the Friends sponsored, the Photo Contest, our Adopt-A-Book Program and Holiday Programs to name a few. Mayor Karen Spiegel and Library Trustee Mary Ybarra spoke about the gratitude both the city and the Trustees have for all that the Friends of the Library does to support the Library.
Board President Jason Scott introduced and thanked the Board members who had served last year and welcomed the new Board members. For a list of new Friends of the Corona Public Library Board Members please see list on the FAQ's page.
The Friend of the Year was announced catching Ed Armijo completely off guard. His dedication and time to the Friends has been noticed. He always has a smile and positive attitude. Congratulations to Ed! (For more details about Ed and the Friend of the Year please visit the About Page.)
Following the meeting, Victor Silverman, a Pomona College history professor, spoke about various aspects of the development of our state. His new book California: On the Road Histories was available to attendees prior to its release in bookstores.

Summerfest Events begin June 22, 2010
Summerfest Friends' Sponsored Events at the Library continue throughout the summer. Check below for more details:

The Kick Off featured a groovy band, The Hypnotics, and lots of fun for all ages including a Bounce House. Other events and programs are now happening daily at the Corona Library. Summer Reading Programs are expected to have hundreds of participants. You can sign up and maybe even win a prize by registering at the Library. Learn about all the exciting events the Library will be offering this summer like Family Nights with special guests and performers, Adult watercolor classes, several great free music events, and more

Written by... Author Events & Book Signings
Written by... The Author Event Series returns July 24, 2010
Reyna Grande, award winning Latina author, will appear at the Corona Library's renowned Written By series on July 24, 2010. Join us in the High Desert Room at the Library at 2 PM.
Books will be available for sale and signing.
Ms. Grande will offer a program discussing her personal story as an undocumented immigrant child and her ability to overcome obstacles to gain a higher education.

'Reyna Grande is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Across A Hundred Mountains (Atria 2006), for which she received an American Book Award (2007) and El Premio Aztlan Literary Award (2006). Her latest novel, Dancing with Butterflies, was published in October 2009 to rave reviews. It received a 2010 International Latino Book Award in its Best Women's Issues category.
Born in Mexico in 1975, Grande was raised by her grandparents after her parents left her behind while they worked in the U.S. She came to the U.S. at the age of nine as an undocumented immigrant and went on to become the first person in her family to obtain a higher education.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and Film and Video from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Antioch University. She is a sought-after speaker at middle/high schools, colleges and universities across the nation. She is the Program Coordinator of the Latino Book & Family Festival. She is currently at work on a memoir.'

The Written By Author Speaker Events Series:
Sponsored by the Friends of the Corona Public Library this series of author events features nationally and locally known bestselling writers. Authors discuss their books, the writing process, and offer books for sale and signing. These programs are free and open to the public to attend the events which are held in the Library Community Room or High Desert Room unless noted below. A great chance for you to meet these venerable writers in an intimate setting. Events are popular, arrive early for best seating.
J.A. Jance, popular bestselling mystery writer, kicked off this series in May 2007 to great success. During 2007-2009, Written By sponsored events with notable, bestselling authors Susan Vreeland, Lawrence Block, Denise Hamilton, and Lisa See among many others.
