BookShop Briefs Update: February 2012

February is always “Love Your Library” Month (at least at the Corona Public Library). Let’s think of some ways that we can do that:

  • Shop at the Friends’ BookShop at least once a week. Remember all money spent at the BookShop directly benefits the Library.
  • Become a member of the Friends. Memberships start at just $10 and have many “perks (i.e. a discount when shopping in the BookShop). There’s a form on the Membership Page of this website.
  • Make an “Adopt A Book” donation. The Library hasn’t had a book budget for two years. All the new materials on the shelves have come from money donated by the Friends and from Adopt A Book donations from local business, community organizations, and from people like you. The Friends match every Adopt A Book donation that is $10 or more. Go to the Projects page on this website to learn more and stop by the BookShop to pick up a brochure.
  • Volunteer to work in the BookShop. What a great, feel good, thing to do! If you’re a “book person” you’ll think you’re in heaven surrounded by thousands of books. There are many kinds of jobs to do in the BookShop – working at the desk in the shop, sorting, pricing, shelving, planning sales, making signage, sending e-mail messages, etc. etc. Learn more by contacting any BookShop worker, asking at the desk in the shop, or e-mailing the Friends from this website. WE NEED YOU!
  • Volunteer to be a member of a Friends’ Committee (i.e. membership, publicity, newsletter, hospitality, etc.) or a member of the Friends’ Board. If you want to know more about what’s involved contact Friend’s President Nita Grantham through the e-mail on this website or at friends@ci.corona.ca.us. We welcome new faces to the Friends Board and to its committees.
  • Continue to bring us your donations of books, magazines, DVDs & CDs.

HOW WILL YOU CHOOSE TO “LOVE YOUR LIBRARY”?

Have you noticed how the BookShop always has festive seasonal decorations?
Nancy Hartoog is the volunteer that adds those special decorative touches to the shop in addition to working a weekly shift at the BookShop desk and serving as a Member-at-Large on the Friends’ Board. Thanks Nancy for all that you do!

Reading Recommendations this month: Read something by one of the many well-known authors born in February, including: Ayn Rand (2-2-1905), James Joyce (2-2-1882), James Michner (2-3-1907), Gertrude Stein (2-3-1874), Sinclair Lewis (2-7-1885), Laura Ingalls Wilder (2-7-1867), Charles Dickens (2-7-1812), Jules Vern (2-8-1828), Emma Bombeck (2-21-1927), Anais Nin (2-21-1903, Victor Hugo (2-26-1802) John Steinbeck (2-27-1902), and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (2-27-1807).
All of which can be found on the shelves of the Friends’ BookShop. Enjoy!

See you in The BookShop!

Our BookShop's Success Story

The Friends' of the Library BookShop is an used bookstore located in the Corona Public Library. We are fully operated by volunteers and proceeds from our sales directly benefit library programs and projects. The BookShop generates $80,000 - $100,000 each year.

Our BookShop is special and unique among library bookstores or any other used bookseller. We pride ourselves on our well organized, well stocked shelves with 64 categories and easily navigatable colorful signage. New inventory is put out every day. Our prices are amongst the lowest of any competive bookstores offering the same merchandise, often starting at 50¢ for paperbacks and $1.00 for hardcover editions. In addition to books, we also sell audio-visual materials, puzzles, games, sets of books, collectible books, Corona history items, Silent Auctions, and gift books.

We offer new book-related gift items such as t-shirts, book bags, mugs, and note cubes. It’s the perfect place to buy a gift for any reader or “book person”.

We have lots of sales – at least one, and usually three of our categories, are 50% off of the marked price at any given time. NEW! For early notification of BookShop sales, ask to be added to our email alerts, just send us your email address. Be sure to print one of our coupons for monthly discounts. Become a member and receive even more discounts and special sales information.

Come visit us. If you're a person who loves books, The Friends’ of Corona Pubilc Library BookShop is definitely a must see!
